Non-Violent Crisis Intervention This 2 day program on Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is a safe, non-harmful behaviour management system designed to help Security and human service workers provide for the best possible care and welfare to assaultive, disruptive or out-of-control persons even during the most violent moment. The techniques learned will provide confidence to handle an episode with minimal anxiety and maximum security and safety for everyone involved. This course is designed for employees working in a hospital and can be modified for other workplace environments. Objectives:
Given lectures, handouts, small and large group exercises the learner will be able to:
· Identify the behaviour levels that contribute to the development of a crisis and choose an appropriate staff intervention for each level · Identify useful nonverbal techniques which can help to prevent acting out behaviour · Identify verbal techniques to avoid escalation · Use verbal techniques to de-escalate behaviour · Demonstrate principles of personal safety to avoid injury if behaviour escalates to a physical level · Provide for the care, welfare, safety and security of all those who are involved in a crisis situation.
