DESCRIPTION:  This course covers basic 3' or 4' Stick attacks and realistic defensive tactics, including blocks, strikes, and subject control techniques and disarms.  The course combines lecture, discussion, demonstration, hands-on performance of techniques in a concise and practical manner.

IMPORTANT:    Students are required to bring a 3' stick of at least 3/4" Diameter.

This seminar teaches some basic fighting techniques with 3 foot and 4 foot sticks. The techniques are simple and effective ways to use common lengths of wood to defend oneself. One has the impression, perhaps because of the hanbo's more practical length and size (it is commonly referred to as a suteki, or "walking stick"), that the hanbo is a more "living" weapon-with direct street-applicability-than the other traditional weapons, and its practice is more typified by innovations.

The hanbo is most frequently trained directly in kata against a sword, which may add some credence to the allegations that Miyamoto Musashi lost a duel to a Kukishin-ryu Master.

Strikes, blocks and effective joint manipulations and locks are taught in this program.
Although only a small sampling of techniques from this diverse system will be taught, this seminar is an excellent introduction to Hanbo-Jutsu.

State-of-the-art training is conducted in a safe classroom environment.  Hypothetical situations are discussed in detail.
